Naming baby

Andy and I CANNOT agree on any names. The same thing happened when I was pregnant with Fischer. Maybe we had both been teaching too long... every name was associated with someone else's kid. We had input from everywhere - including the name jar that my second graders had with all of their name suggestions (which were mostly their own names). We were getting desperate. One day as we drove down the road we started reading random words and names off of business and street signs, that's where we came up with Fischer. We also liked Micah. My mom thought that naming the baby "Fischer" would be a huge mistake. She spent about 30 minutes describing what sort of therapy he'd need for being named that! Of course, she hung up the phone and called 10 minutes later, saying that "Fischer" was a fine name and she would be supportive of any name we choose. What?? My dad must have talked to her! ;)

Anyway, by the time we got to the hospital we still hadn't decided. In fact, Fischer was born on a Monday and we didn't actually choose his name till Wednesday!

Top names for our baby girl (as of today),

I like: Clara, Maya, Hannah, Presley...

Andy likes: Taylor, Jessie, Abby, Allie, Sydney, Willow, Rain...

Some family names (on my side) are: Daisy, Marie, Ann, Lillian, Virginia, Helen

We're open to suggestions.

Sailor/Saylor. Very cute. Goes with your nautical theme!

Love love love Clara! What about Alta or Afton. Those are great OLD classic names.

Ooo, I like Sailor, good idea. I love Clara too, but Andy thinks of Clarabelle the cow from Mickey Mouse Club House... and my parents think of some clown named Clarabelle from back in their day. Why doesn't anyone think of Clara from the Nutcracker? Anyway, I didn't think of any of those things when I thought of Clara... i just think it is pretty.

You know I love Jessie- because she is our baby! Some of my family has had arguments over who gets to name their baby girl Clara- my SIL wins because she's the oldest, but so far she has had four boys. She's really hoping number 5 or 6 is a girl so she can have her Clara. Hannah is a palindrome (love it), I know a girl named Willow who is our age and she is a great writer and very friendly. I grew up with a "Rainy"- smart and athletic. Please no Virginia or Helen- they just seem so "old". Ginny, maybe? I don't know. I just remembered I have named none of my children. I AM partial to girls names that could be boys names- Cori is a favorite. (As are kacy and jessie...) Good luck with this. It's hard, especially when you can't agree. I did nix one of Ryan's- he wanted to name Jessie Virgil Danger, so he could say "Danger is my middle name" and Virgil after a Wyatt Earp thing. Good thing she was a girl... We would have had to have words, otherwise!

You know I love Lilly, affectionate name for Lillian. Lilly [with your last name] just sounds so unforgettable, she is bound to be a poet of gifted writer. But who am I? I am nothing but a simple minded pyshic.

Ray - I deleted and reposted your comment without my last name. I do like Lilly, but was thinking of one of the family names for a middle name. Although, Lilly is really cute!

Karrie - Virginia or Helen would definitely have middle name status. I like the girl names with boy names for short... all of my barbies were named "Sam" - Samantha, "Alex" - Alexandra, and "Danni"- Danielle. So funny. Anyway, i'm with you on the wacky names form the hubby. Andy used to always talk about naming a girl Mia Fontaine - Mia, after Mia hamm the soccer player, and Fontaine after the brand of hockey stick he used at the time! I tried naming Sophie that, years ago... knowing full well that we could never name out child after out dog! No such luck, he didn't give the name up that easily. That was 10 years ago, and he still really likes the name "Mia", but has thankfully dropped the Fontaine.
Speaking of naming your kid after your dog, i REALLy like the name Kaia, and wish that I hadn't named our dog that!

Sailor Ann for sure! Although Clara Ann is cute, but look like it is ruled out already.

i am partial to the name abby :-) seriously, picking a name is the hardest part! ESPECIALLY after teaching...can't imagine having 2 teachers trying to decide!

brian and i were debating between two names -- he liked one and i liked the other...luckily for me, our good friends had a baby girl a few weeks before us and used the name that brian liked, so that was out!

good luck!

Have you tried the Baby Name Wizard? It's a really fun web site and actually quite useful for seeing trends and getting new ideas.
From your list, I personally like Clara the best and do think of the Nutcracker, but also think of a student....

Cute names, I'm especially partial to Presley, although you have a bunch of cute ones!

My friend, Susannah, named her daughter Clara and when I heard her name I instantly loved it... still do. From the time I was nine years old I said I was going to name a little girl Hannah but then heard the name Avery and went with that... I still love Hannah. I am also LOVING Sydney! You didn't mention that name the other day at the park (or you may have and because of wild children I didn't hear that part of the conversation.) I think Sydney goes really well with your last name. And Presley as well, I think that's a cute name. Not such a fan on Willow, Maya or Rain but in the end I don't think you should care how anyone else feels about your name choice. It's your baby and your decision and the rest of us will one day look back and say, "wow, I'm so glad you named your baby Whoopi... She SOOOO looks like a Whoopi!"

But if you do care what I think (as you should, haha) my ultimate favorite from your list is Sydney with Clara coming in a close second.

PS... I can't wait until she's here!!! And PSS... I'm still waiting for my call back!

Every Micha I met was a girl, if you liked it back then you should just go with it, at least you already agree on it. Fischer and Micha go well together.

I LOVE Presley Ann or Payton Marie...I agree with the last post and think you should maybe go with Micah for a girl. It is different and I love the different names.

ummm, hi.

I would like to know if Fontaine was a Stick Manufacture, or just a "fontaine curve" on his blade. I have never heard of a Fontaine Hockey stick. Please clarify with the big man and let me know as soon as possible, because I find myself very perplexed.

Sincerely,
Management.

Mike - first of all I thought you may be writing me while sitting upon a British toilet... till I remembered that is spelled "loo" and duh - you meant Louis.

Anyway, Since Andy isn't home, I checked it out and found that Fontaine:The company, name and manufacturing facility in Sacramento, CA were bought by Hillerich & Bradsby (aka Louisville Hockey, now known as TPS Hockey) and the wording "Fontaine Technology" was used on Louisville's early shafts.

The main person behind Fontaine still works for TPS Hockey.

In case you really wanted to know all of the details.

I'd love to have your email... to discuss such important topics! I hope that you are well. Email me at fisforfischer@gmail.com

I think Taylor or Jessie are BOTH excellent choices.
